Artist Statement
Inspired by several beach and snorkeling trips in Indonesia and the Philippines last 2023, "Heart of the Sea" represents my vision of how our beautiful coral reefs give life to our seas and the creatures depending on them. The corals are illustrated in the shape of a human heart to symbolize how crucial human intervention is to save them and protect our oceans in general.
Coral reefs are the “beating heart” of our oceans, giving habitat, feeding, spawning, and nursery grounds for millions of aquatic species. Their role also extends to us humans by providing livelihood, food, and coastal protection. And just like in our body, when this fragile “heart” stops beating, the entire system collapses.
